The key performance indicators of the pilot test have reached the international leading level

Recently, led by China Fifth Ring Engineering Co., Ltd., the“ Temperature controlled Methanation Catalysts and Key Technologies for Processes; Passed the scientific and technological achievement evaluation organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. The evaluation committee believes that this technology has independent intellectual property rights, significant innovation, and key performance indicators in the pilot test have reached the international leading level. It is recommended to accelerate the construction of industrial demonstration projects.

;This project focuses on the research of low-temperature methanation catalysts and reactor equipment. By integrating temperature controlled methanation catalysts with efficient temperature control and no circulation processes, a complete set of technologies with advantages such as no circulation, short process, and low energy consumption has been developed.

The evaluation opinion shows that this achievement has developed a low-temperature and highly active methane catalyst, an efficient temperature controlled reactor, and a key technology for COx free cyclic methane production process. Specifically, this achievement has the following three innovative points: firstly, by using nano thermal conductive materials and special preparation processes, a low-temperature and highly active pre reduction type temperature controlled methanation catalyst has been created, achieving high COx one-way conversion rate and high methane selectivity, and the carbon dioxide content in the product gas meets the requirements for direct cryogenic treatment; Secondly, an efficient temperature controlled methanation reactor has been developed, which can control the bed and reactor outlet temperatures during one-way passage under high COx inlet concentration conditions, thereby improving the operational stability of the catalyst; Thirdly, a COx free cycle and controllable reaction temperature methane conversion process technology has been invented, simplifying the process flow and reducing equipment investment and operating energy consumption.

In October 2023, a temperature controlled methanation pilot plant was built in middling coal Shaanxi Energy and Chemical Group Co., Ltd. with the technology, and the cumulative operation time exceeded 2000 hours. From May 26th to 29th this year, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation organized experts to conduct a 72 hour continuous on-site assessment of the pilot plant. On site assessment data shows that the processing capacity of the device's raw gas is 282 standard cubic meters per hour, the COx concentration of the product gas is 12.4ppm, the one-way conversion rate of carbon monoxide is 100%, the one-way conversion rate of carbon dioxide is 99.97%, and the methane selectivity is 99.99%.

It is reported that the development and storage of efficient and low-cost natural gas production technologies are of great significance for enhancing China's self supply capacity of natural gas and ensuring national energy security. Methanol release gas, coke oven gas, pyrolysis gas, and the development of coal gasification synthesis gas to produce natural gas are important ways to enrich natural gas sources, and methane conversion technology is a key prerequisite for its successful industrial application.
